I had done this previously ever since language packs for WoW existed but in the most recent patch (3.0.3) there seems to have been a restructuring of how additional languages are installed, and my previous set up didnt work after I patched it.There is one thing clear though it seems Blizzard made some intentional changes to the langauge packs to explicitly prevent them for being installed if certian conditions are present. Some of these restrictions make sense (in particualr, pertaining to the russian lanauge pack, since there are character set problems to consider), others dont seems to make sense from a functionaly stand point.
This assumes you already have a fully working and functional English US installation patched to 3.0.8. Also, it is only confirmed to work for the German language pack, and only using Server 2008 (or Vista Id assume). There are several ways to do this, and if you dont know how you probably shouldnt be trying this. For some reason, the installer tome will use it ( I have my own theory as to why). Also put a file calld EULA.html (just a blank text file renamed will work) in the root of your hard drive. So the paths woud be (in my case) C:InstallerFileList.xml and C:EULA.html. Rename the enUS folder to something else (I just used ienUS). So the game is still trying to authenticate to the EU servers (which gives There isnt a wow account associated with this battle.net account). The workaround is OS specific, but you basically need to redirect the EU logon server back to the US logon server. In Windows XP, you can do this via the hosts file (similar to Jared Kipes first comment). Heres what my hosts file has: 12.129.206.130 213-248-127-130.customer.teliacarrier.com 12.129.206.130 eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com 12.129.206.130 eu.logon.battle.net. It adds another layer of complexity, but if you really want your alternate language, its an option. But for me, when I tried to play it in English again it would crash on open. To fix that, I copied my enUS data folder from backup to the WoW data folder. You have to go back to your data folder and rename the local folder that youre not using to something else. You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed. Much appreciated. I installed the French (frFR) language pack. I spent a good portion of tonight working on it and I found your guide excellent. I have always been curious as to if this was possible, and I am happy to say that on my windows xp laptop I am now running a German language pack for wow ). Now confirmed to work for Windows XP, MacOSx, and French language packs. The only problem now is my questhelper doesnt work Do you know of any similar add-ons that would work, or could be modified to work with the language pack. I tried adding the translation file frfr.lua to its language folder, but that did nothing Hm.
